The staff is very friendly and professional. The dentist is super awesome, he cares and takes the time to explain what you need.
My experience started a week ago, when I came in for a new patient visit. The beginning hygienist was very thorough and took a lot of x-rays. She had a light hand when cleaning my teeth and, while not the most talkative, was attentive and did a good job cleaning. My wait time was about 30-45 minutes before Dr. Macaraeg came in. She introduced herself and then set about looking at the x-rays. She didn’t discuss much with me- mostly focused on talking to her hygienist and highlighting things on the x-rays. Her back was to me most of the time and she discussed most of the films with her hygienist. I didn’t realize that was her version of going over the films with me, otherwise I would have paid more attention and asked more questions. She told me I had 9 cavities! This came as a shock because, as far as I could remember, I’ve only had 3 in my entire 37 years of being. To be told that I had tripled that number was a bit shocking. Needless to say, I was very upset and, yes, I cried. They brought me some tissue while waiting for the dentist to come back in and numb me up so we could fix two of them. I will say that the male hygienist was very nice and tried to cheer me up- that was sweet. We then moved to another room as I was waiting for numbness to set in. I waited at least another hour for the dentist to come back (at this point, I had already been there 2+ hours). She apologized and immediately set to work. They were complaining about their equipment and it didn’t seem to be working very well, which they apologized for. Mostly they talked amongst themselves (understandable since I couldn’t answer or talk) but they did discuss how they were unhappy with their equipment and they seemed to have to drill excessively on my teeth. I made an appointment for the following Monday to come in and have more work done. The week progresses and I start to have pain in my mouth on the side they worked on. I knew I had an appointment on Monday so I dealt with it. At this point, I was upset that not only did they say I had to have a lot of work done but I was having pain with what they already did and it needed to be fixed, which didn’t bode well for my confidence in their services. They explained that the filling was sitting too high and it just needed to be filed down- that this was a common issue and because your mouth is numb when the filling is set that it isn’t always set right because you don’t bite down correctly. I can understand that but I was still hesitant, so, when they asked if I wanted to proceed, I said yes, but, it would be helpful for me to go over all my x-rays so that I could gain an understanding of what they were seeing. Dr. Mac seemed a little taken aback that I requested this and she questioned my recollection of the last visit. I told her that I didn’t remember going over the x-rays (standing with your back to me talking to your hygienist doesn’t constitute going over them) so I asked her to see them. She was a little snippy at this point even saying to me that I wouldn’t understand them, I wasn’t a dentist. I’ve never had a procedure done where it’s not fully explained to me (even more than once). I’ve also never had anyone balk at doing this. She started explaining a few things to me and I was asking quite a bit of questions. At this time, I said, I don’t understand all this. I’ve only ever had 3 cavities in my life. (Note- I wasn’t accusing her of anything- I genuinely don’t understand what has happened that resulted in nine cavities in six months since my last dentist visit). She stopped and said well, you’ve had at least 6 and started pointing them out. She seemed very aggravated at this point and I said- Ok, carry on (meaning, let’s continue looking at the x-rays) and she said- I can’t work with you. I can’t work with someone who distrusts me. She then took her mask off, stood up and walked out. I asked for a manager to contact me about this and have heard nothing. Incredibly unprofessional!
I'm really impressed with the quality provided. I was there this morning for my 6 month hygiene appointment. It was the second time I'd gone to DS of Bartlett. My insurance had changed since then and they helped me get set up so that I didn't have to worry about out-of-pocket costs. Everyone was kind and smiled as I walked to the room for cleaning. Dr Richard Jeu came and introduced himself and asked how I was doing. He then passed it on to the hygienist, Tracy who was very kind and made easy conversation throughout the course of the cleaning. She was gentle, yet thorough, and walked me through each phase of what she was doing, as well as WHY she was doing it. She offered great times for my next appointment, and took my requests into consideration. The front desk was kind and I thank them as well. Overall, a very good dental practice for the family.
